CAREERS

At Handsom, we strive to create a working environment that is friendly, creative, and stimulating. Our head office is situated above our Gertrude Street store, in the heart of Fitzroy. From here, our small design team works closely with our talented retail team, and we encourage collaboration and initiative.

Below are current opportunities to join us:

We’re looking for a Brand and Marketing Manager to take ownership of our marketing, build brand awareness and help to grow our online business. This is primarily a creative role. We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of brand – someone who understands our DNA and where we sit in the market, and can translate that into a clear and effective marketing strategy.

The role brings together brand, creative content and commercial growth. You’ll work closely with our Creative Directors to develop how Handsom shows up across channels, identify opportunities to reach new audiences, and turn our creative direction, collections and day-to-day world into marketing that feels relevant and distinctly Handsom.

You’ll be both strategic and hands-on. We’re a small independent team, so resourcefulness is key – we’re looking for someone who can develop an idea and work out how to make it happen, whether that’s creating content in the store or studio, organising and executing a photo shoot, developing a partnership, putting together an event or finding a smart way to reach a new audience.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and own Handsom’s marketing strategy, with a focus on creative output and increasing brand awareness.
  • Plan seasonal campaigns, product launches and ongoing marketing activity alongside our Creative Directors.
  • Develop a considered content strategy across social, email and digital, and create regular day-to-day content in our store and studio.
  • Plan and execute content shoots, working with our Creative Directors and organising the people, locations and resources needed to bring them together.
  • Manage Handsom’s organic social channels, including planning, publishing and community engagement.
  • Own our email marketing strategy, from campaign planning and content through to customer segmentation, retention and performance.
  • Plan, run and optimise our paid digital advertising, including campaign setup, creative testing, audience strategy, budget management and performance reporting.
  • Develop and execute collaborations, partnerships, PR opportunities and events, from initial idea and outreach through to delivery.
  • Assist retail team with Shopify store on a seasonal basis. This will include seasonal product uploads, imagery, merchandising and keeping site content current.
  • Track performance across channels and use those insights to understand what’s working, what isn’t and where the next opportunities lie.

About You

We’re less interested in a particular job title or number of years on your CV than in what you’ve actually done.

You have a strong understanding of brand positioning and know how to build awareness without losing sight of what makes a brand distinctive. You’re interested in fashion, design and culture, and have a good instinct for where Handsom sits within that landscape.

You’re creative, practical and resourceful. You don’t just come up with ideas – you know how to make them happen. You’re comfortable finding the right people, making connections, working within a budget and pulling together the moving parts needed to get something off the ground.

You’re visually literate and comfortable creating good, natural content yourself. You don’t need a full production team to capture something interesting happening in the studio or turn an idea into a piece of social content.

You’re commercially minded and curious about performance. You understand that building a brand and driving sales aren’t separate jobs, and you’re comfortable using data to inform what you do next.

You’re proactive and self-directed. You generate ideas, spot opportunities and follow them through rather than waiting for a detailed brief.

You ideally have hands-on experience with Shopify and paid digital advertising, and are comfortable managing both independently. You’ll ideally have experience across social, content and email marketing, along with Klaviyo, Meta Ads Manager and Google Analytics.

Experience within fashion is preferred but not essential. An understanding of and genuine interest in independent fashion, design and culture is.

The Details

This is a permanent part-time role, initially 3 days per week, based primarily at our studio and store on Gertrude Street in Fitzroy.

There’s some flexibility around how the three days are structured, although being physically present with the team will be an important part of the role, particularly for content creation, and working alongside design and retail.

Salary: AU$60–70,000 + super for 3 days per week, depending on experience.

How to Apply

Send us your CV and a short introduction telling us a little about yourself and why you’re interested in the role to hello@handsom-store.com

We’d also love to see examples of work you’ve personally contributed to – particularly a brand, campaign or business you’ve helped grow, along with examples of content you’ve created yourself. Please be clear about what you were personally responsible for.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to meet with us, followed by a small paid exercise based around Handsom.

We’re looking for a Melbourne-based freelance photographer / content creator to work with Handsom on regular social and content shoots.

This is a relaxed, lo-fi setup – usually around 4 hours once a fortnight, shooting a mix of product, people, store, behind-the-scenes.

We’re looking for someone with fashion photography experience, a strong eye and an understanding of our brand and where we sit in the market. You’ll need to understand clothing, proportion and styling, while being able to create imagery that feels natural and considered rather than overly polished or commercial.

You should be comfortable working fairly independently, finding interesting moments and compositions, and adapting to what we need from shoot to shoot.

Most shoots will be based in and around our Fitzroy store and studio, with occasional shoots on location.

Details:

  • Approx. 4 hours per shoot, usually once a fortnight
  • Freelance / ongoing
  • Mostly Fitzroy based
  • $100/hr
  • Ideally available to start soon
  • Fashion photography experience essential
